13th Annual General Meeting of OTAM

The 13th Annual General Meeting of OTAM was held on 15th March 2017 at Atelier Dumont, Ebène.  During his speech, the President, Mr Charles Cartier, apprised that the year 2016 was very challenging for the ICT-BPO sector. Several activities have been organised by OTAM in collaboration with Ministry of Technology, Communication and Information, CCIFM and MITIA to create more awareness and visibility.

OTAM has furthermore been involved in several projects with HRDC; National Skills Development Programme (NSDP) and Youth Employment Programmme (YEP) to encourage the youngsters to be more involved in the ICT-BPO sector. Being a Partner Member of Business Mauritius gives OTAM the opportunity to participate in negotiations with regards to the salary survey and the labour law.

Finally he thanked the Committee Members for their support during his 3-year mandate and announced members that the First Vice President, Mr. Ken Arian has been appointed as the new President.

 The first and second Vice-Presidents are Mr Charles Cartier of Accenture Mauritius and Mr. Arnaud de Prin of Orange Business Services respectively.

2TH Annual General Meeting of OTAM 

The 12th Annual General Meeting of OTAM was held on 29th March 2016 at Atelier Dumont, Ebène.  During his speech, the President, Mr Charles Cartier, apprised that the continuity and consistency of OTAM’s actions are essential as the ICT-BPO industry is facing major challenges. He highlighted the main challenges facing the industry, namely:

  •         The Disruptions facing the ICT-BPO industry
  •          The Global War of Talent
  •          The competitiveness of the Mauritius ICT-BPO industry

To face these challenges OTAM has taken steps to act and to improve the Mauritius talent pool like the Graduate Training for Employment Scheme (GTES) and HSC Pro.  

The Guest Speaker, Hon Etienne Sinatambou, Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, said thatthe ICT sector has a huge potential for job creation and we firmly believe that through Public Private Partnership (PPP) the ICT sector will move ahead”.

Mr Charles Cartier of TNT Business Solutions Ltd has been re-elected as president.

The first and second Vice-Presidents are Mr Ken Arian of Active line Ltd and Mr. Arnaud de Prin of Orange Business Services respectively.

10TH Annual General Meeting of OTAM

 

The 10th Annual General Meeting of OTAM was held on 21st March 2014 at Clos St Louis, Domaine Les Pailles.  The outgoing President, Mr Roshan Seetohul, apprised members present of the performance and the main activities of OTAM over the year, which were:

  • Developing and maintaining successful working relationships with stakeholders to develop and promote the ICT sector in Mauritius
  • Addressing Human Capital Challenge
  • Contributing to the development of ICT in Rodrigues
  • Collaborations with MCCI and Industry Associations
  • Regional Cooperation

 

Mr Roshan Seetohul also thanked the MCCI team, OTAM Secretariat for their support during his 4-year mandate.

Mr Charles Cartier of TNT Business Solutions has been elected President.

The new President seized the opportunity to apprise members of the issues that the newly elected committee members would address. 

The Annual General Meeting was followed by a Networking Cocktail, with the presence of the chief guest, Honourable Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum, Minister of Information and Communication Technology. Members present also had the opportunity to interact with other stakeholders of the sector.

 


 
Cooperation Agreement with MCCI and MITIA

OTAM has signed a Cooperation Agreement on 19 February 2014 in Ebène with the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and Mauritius IT Industry Association (MITIA). 

Under this Agreement, OTAM, MCCI and MITIA agree to collaborate to be the prominent advocate of the Mauritian ICT Industry with the aim to spearhead initiatives to further develop the ICT sector nationally, regionally and internationally.

Meeting held with MEF

[21 Nov 2013]

OTAM organised an interactive meeting with Mr. Pradeep Dursun, Acting Director of the MEF to better understand issues related to End of Year Bonus and its calculation. 

Members present had the opportunity to ask pertinent questions related to the late changes in the employment rights act and relations act and any other labour related legislation as well as the effect of the changes on the ICT-BPO sector.


 

Budget Memorandum submitted

In view of the forthcoming Budget Speech of 8 November 2013, OTAM together with the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mauritius IT Industry Association and the IT Commission of CCIFM submitted a Budget Memorandum to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.

 


 

2012 Mauritius ICT Sector Remuneration Survey

The objective of this document is to provide stakeholders of the ICT Sector with an overview of remuneration levels and reward practices of the sector. The survey was conducted by Capfor under the aegis of CCIFM, OTAM, MITIA and MEF.

Briefing Session on the ICT Skills Development Pro

OTAM in collaboration with the National Computer Board (NCB) has organised a briefing session on the ISDP Scheme on Wednesday 15 May 2013 at 16:00 Hrs at the Conference Hall of Ebene Cyber Tower 1, Ebene Cyber City.

The objective was to apprise OTAM members of the existing framework as well as the refund procedures for training and stipend. 

Members were further given to opportunity to express their views and make necessary proposals during an interactive session.Pertinent issues were addressed during the interactive session to better shape the scheme for the benefit of the sector.

 


 

9th Annual General Meeting of OTAM

The 9th Annual General Meeting of OTAM was held on 28th March 2012 at Clos St Louis, Domaine Les Pailles. The President, Mr Roshan Seetohul, gave an outline of the main activities of the association over the year:

  • Representations on Councils
  • Participations and solicitations
  • Actions and activities to address pertinent issues like human capital, fraud tracking, Data Protection Act, Amendments to Employment Rights Act 2008 & Employment Relations Act 2008
  • Budget Memorandum submitted to Ministry of Finance and Economic Development
  • Regional Cooperation

He also seized the opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the sector and ways to address those issues.  The Annual General Meeting was followed by a Networking Cocktail where members present had the opportunity to interact with other stakeholders of the sector.


 

Proposal to the Board of Investment

As you are all aware, the  ICT Industry is facing an ongoing major economic crisis that have contributed to reduce significantly the business outcome and predictability of operators.  Moreover, the French authorities are sending some worrying signals such as repatriation of ICT / BPO jobs. 

We wish to inform you that the Marketing & Strategy Sub-Committee – consisting namely of Mr Roshan Seetohul, Mr Charles Cartier, Mr Thomas Buffard and Mr Barlen Pillay – has been working on strategies to adopted to address the above mentioned issues and that ongoing talks are being held between members of the sub-committee and the BOI team to organise events such as communications and B-to-B events. The objective is also to bring to Mauritius a number of potential service (call center, BPO, ITO) decision makers, buyers and / or investors as well as dedicated ICT / BPO Media.
